On October 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse was seen in parts of the United States. This was a partial eclipse of the sun, but it prompted me to imagine back to ancient times, when eclipses would occur and lead to terror and confusion. Although this is not directed related to Parsha Noach, the end of an eclipse and the reappearance of the sun and its is a message of hope pertinent to these times.
Be strong. The sun will return.
Shabbat Shalom,
Leann
Surely
they could not
expect the world
would
go dark at noon.
For a moment?
Forever?
The sun,
so powerful
overrun
by the pale moon.
For a time
(How long it felt)
darkness reigned
and blindness ruled
as humans hid,
crumpled under rocks.
High above the fray
the moon continued
her mindless travels.
Sliver by sliver
the warming rays
of the hostage sun
returned
and again the land
was
showered with light.
The people
emerged
slowly, as though reborn,
blinking as if
seeing through
a soul
that perceives
light
for the first time.
