Frozen Roses
Frozen roses
sway bravely
on thorny green stems.
Their paper white
petals,
dewy no more,
softly
rattle on the
splintered fence.
They are the survivors.
The only ones.
Confused,
they nod
their turbaned heads
to passersbys.
“Should we stay
or
should we leave
this
chilly
autumn party?”
The humans shrug
and leave them
shivering
in the biting wind.
It is the final number;
the brittle dance
of
late November.
